The Cerdanya valley is very special. It is the only valley in the Pyrenees that goes from east to west. As a result, the valley receives more than 3000 hours of sunshine annually; at the same time it is very green due to the Segre river and all mountain streams that flow throught the valley.
The valley consists of a large wide plateau located at more than 1000 meters , surrounded by peaks of nearly 3000 meters. As a result, you will find both an alpine climate and a Mediterranean climate. As a result, it has a great diversity of landscapes. In addition, it is one of the areas of Europe with the most biodiversity per km2. Apart from that, you can find here the 4 types of European vultures, the rare capercaillie, the Pyrenean owl, and many more birds. Also if we talk about flora there are so many kinds of rare flowers. Also there are plenty of routes to hike in the Cadí-Moixeró Nature Park.
Traditionally this valley has been inhabited and dotted with picturesque villages and farmlands and impressive landscapes through the mountains.
In addition, Cerdanya is located at the crossroads of three countries (Spain, France and Andorra) which gives an extra dimension to the region.
Because of its wide openness you have beautiful views from almost any higher point and through the radiant light the valley looks like an amphitheatre surrounded by mountains. Dominated by three colours: the pink shining snow of the high peaks; the green spruces and pines at the high mountains and the lighter polished green of the meadows, the poplars and the els; this colour palette forms a landscape of perfect order and great elegance.
