Sustainability
Committed to the environment, with society and our workers
At Cerdanya EcoResort the heart of our company is in nature, in the respect for the environment, for culture and rural society. For this reason we are devoted to follow these sustainability commitments!
Welcome to La Cerdanya, the great valley of the Pyrenees
La Cerdanya is one of the areas with more biodiversity in Europe, with over 3000 hours of sun per year. A landscape inhabited from prehistoric times by humans that lived in harmony with nature, creating an identity of their own in the Pyrenees, and it is our duty and our desire to take care of this unique environment in the world.
For some years now we are experiencing an environmental change, nature is dying, and human impact is the cause. At Cerdanya EcoResort we have decided not to be spectators but actors of this awful change, with the help of our clients.
We are a family business with values that are transmitted from generation to generation, and we try to offer services that are as respectful as possible with the environment and, at the same time, raise awareness among our clients by inviting them to adopt an eco-responsible attitude!

Energy
In the Cerdanya EcoResort, 90% of the energy we use is renewable. We have been working on sustainable energy for mopre than 25 years and we are increasingly committed to it. We have different types of solar thermal and photovoltaic panels installed in all our establishments. The energy to operate the heating is obtained from biomass, which produces energy from wood debris.
For illumination we use LEDs, lights that consume 90% less than the traditional ones, producing the same amount of light and also having a longer life! We also have presence detectors installed to avoid wasting this light.

Water
Water is a precious resource and it is necessary that we strive to preserve it by reducing its consumption.
To do so, we have rainwater deposits that collect channel and irrigation waters to fill the pools and water our vegetable gardens, using irrigation systems drop by drop so as not to waste water. We also have tanks with two levels of emptying, water pressure regulators in all faucets and showers.
Laundry is a service that consumes a lot of water, so we changes towels and sheets only when customers leave them on the floor. We reward the customers who reuse the towels by giving an Euro-Cerdà.
To not contaminate water with chemicals, we provide organic soap and shampoo and our cleaning products are certified with the European Ecolabel.

Gastronomy
We want to guarantee our customers a healthy diet with 70% of organic products, 70% gluten-free, 70% of vegetarian dishes, 70% of Catalan cuisine of the Pyrenees and 70% of local products to encourage the regions’ economy and reduce CO2 emissions. We look for fair trade products like the coffee we currently use.
The water we give to our customers is ionized and produced by us, which neutralizes the body’s acid and is an antioxidant, a healthy way to stay hydrated.
All the harvest of our vegetable gardens goes directly to our restaurants so that everyone can enjoy fresh, seasonal and organic products!

Recycling
Our current challenge is to reduce as much waste as we possibly can. 40% of our household waste is organic, so everything that is organic goes back to its origin: nature. The perfect cycle of permaculture is without waste! The food of the restaurants that’s wasted is used for compost or to feed the animals on our farm.
We recycle oils, batteries, paper, plastics and cans, glass, organic matter, and to not contribute to the use of disposable products, we have taken small preventive measures such as installing a soap dispenser (100% ecological) in the rooms and other actions like putting the breakfast jam in a common pot! We also use 100% recyclable paper when needed and certified prospects with the European Ecolabel and the FSC and PEFC environmental label.

Social colaborations
During the year we carry out different actions of social and environmental collaboration. We are very involved and participate in many associations directly to promote social and cultural entities as well as several NGOs.
For example, we collaborate with entities that work to preserve the “gallfer” (a type of chicken from the Pyrenees) or associations who study climate change through Marmots.
Social Cerdans
Caring for the environment now has a prize! Come with an electric vehicle, reuse towels, share a car, don’t throw away food, pick up litter from the forests… Our team will reward you with Social Cerdans coins that you can deposit in one of our piggy banks, each of which contributes to a different NGOs cause. Then our company turns the wooden coins into real donations for each NGO.

Nature workshops
We organize daytrips and excursions guided by experts in Pyrenean fauna to observe and learn about species such as marmots or the vulture, as well as the flora of the Pyrenees!
The focus of these environmental workshops is to learn about our surroundings and to become aware of the danger of extinction that some of these species are in.

Permaculture
Permaculture is a way of seeing the world and it inspires our company and we apply it in our vegetable gardens.
Permaculture is much more than a way to cultivate the earth regeneratively, it is a new approach to live in a more harmonious way with the planet.

We are part of the Cuina Catalana (Catalan Cuisine) brand, which aims to promote traditional and good quality cuisine in the region, to preserve local and rural heritage.

We participate in the sustainable development of our territory, respecting certain policies of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

We collaborate with the fight against tourism related with wild animals, especially those in danger of extinction. We are committed to ethical alternatives for tourists who want to learn about these animals in a responsible way and supporting the work of sanctuaries and real rescue centers.
Our team!
Without the work and collaboration of our team, Cerdanya EcoResort and all it stands for would not be possible!
